If you are getting Windows 10 Free Update through mails then Don't Trust it says Cisco

Posted By: Unknown - 20:18
As we know this week Microsoft has released the new Windows 10 in 190 countries. Thus, The latest desktop operating system has attracted many millions of users already, including some fraudsters too. A new ransomeware starts to circulate in the wild which has attempted to fool users into downloading and installing malware instead.

Cisco which is known for designing and manufacturing of network equipment has warned users about a new phishing attack which tricks users to install malware after then asks for ransom. The fake email comes as an official release from Microsoft with the subject name 'Windows 10 Free Update'.

The falsification of the attack is distressful too. The email states to be coming from update microsoft.com and uses the same colour and font scheme as used by the company. This could trick many into believing that the email is true.
But Cisco points out, the origination of email in the wording and formatting of the text should make users suspicious.

The malware in question is CTB-Locker which is a ransomware. Once installed, the malware locks down all the files -- including of all the devices connected to a computer, and demands for a payment in 96 hours if the victim wishes to have access to them again.

They also notes that the venomous minds behind it are using tools like Tor to stay anonymous as well as change their IP addresses, which makes it harder for security firms to detect their origination and to take any sudden step.
The best one can do right now is to make sure to ignore any downloads from any unofficial channels.
